The Bottom Shelf Bourbon Trio
The Bottom Shelf Bourbon Trio is a genre-bending, roots music duo based in Vancouver, BC. Blending the grit and growl of country blues with the confessionals of contemporary folk and Americana, their forthcoming album is a collection of personal meditations that channel difficult times into a form of catharsis. Slumberland often explores dark themes such as suicide, homophobic violence, and love lost to distance, time and death, while finding ways to move forward through kindness, optimism and acceptance.
The group is made up of multi-instrumentalists Steven Huston (upright bass, guitar, vocals) and Chris Dawson-Murphy (guitar, banjo, vocals). The shapes and outlines of Huston's song writing and lyrics provide a broad canvas to be coloured and shaded by Chris' intricate guitar work, unorthodox banjo picking, and the duo's silky smooth harmonies. The band is influenced by sounds as diverse as blues pioneers Blind Blake and Victoria Spivey, to contemporary groups Mandolin Orange and The Handsome Family.
“Doc and Merle would both be real proud of you two.”
